What We Have To Say

Please, Do NOT Make These Mistakes!

There are several different mistakes that people often make when they are trying to set up their website or re-design it so that it looks more professional. Some of the most commonly made mistakes are often things that the designer really does not even think about. These mistakes can cause HUGE problems for those visiting your website as well as the search engines when they are indexing your site. Let’s look at five mistakes that are simple to identify and correct.

1. Your Introduction is a Flash Presentation. This is not always the most effective way to tell visitors what you your site is about and what you are offering. You need to remember that this is not the greatest way to make your introduction because many people simply skip these Flash introductions because they tend to load slower than a regular introduction page. An alternative to a flash introduction is to have smaller flash components on your main page. Even if these load slightly slower your visitors still have your main content immediately.

2. Music or Videos Automatically Starting. This is one of the most annoying aspects of many websites that people complained about. Think about this; how many times have you yourself been turned off by and complained because a video or background music starts as soon as the page loads? The best thing that you can do is set it up so that your visitors can click the Play button to start these media elements if they want to, or if you must have music of video start automatically on the page make sure there is a mute or pause button that is easy to locate.

3. Photographs those are too impersonal. This is also something that you really, really need to be aware of in order to make the best possible impression. How many times have you gone to a website that has that same old picture of a Customer Service Representative with their headset on just waiting for you to call? Think about what your impression of this was. Instead of this, you might want to take some pictures of your staff and your store front or perhaps those that work with you every day and post those on your website. This lets your visitors see who owns and runs the business and appeals to them more.

4. Text Size of Color. You might not think that carefully choosing the size and color of your font is a big deal, but it really does make a BIG difference! Think about this; how many times have you visited a website that had text that was difficult to read. What it that the font was too small or maybe the text blended into the background? By choosing a font size and color that ensure maximum visibility will ensure that your visitors get the most information from your site as quickly as possible. If is also important to have your words as actual text and not pictures of text. This allows search engines and screen readers full access to your content.

5. Simple and clean is best. If you really want visitors to be able to enjoy your website and get the most from your information, making sure that your website is as simple and clean as possible works the best. Some of the best-loved websites are clean and simple to navigate without many of the frills and gimmicks.
